Principal’s Report

The school year is off to a great start. Thank you to PTC for all of the support with "clear the teacher list" and sponsoring great events like the back to school picnic. We are very excited to have events back in the building. We are in the process of scheduling assemblies, events and fun activities for the students.

The teachers have been focusing on our theme "You belong here" and our school them "Better Together" where we are building a sense of community and school family after being apart and disjointed with COVID.

Coming up we are looking forward to Outdoor Education with 5th grade and our fall parties. Classes have done a lot of assessments at the start of the year to know students' levels and get a snapshot of where they are at academically. If parents have any questions about the reports that went home, please reach out to your child's teacher. We are looking forward to a great year back to normal activities for the first time in 4 years. It is going to be great!

Faculty Representative Report

Kindergarten

We have been spending time getting to know each other, learning classroom routines and expectations. We have been introducing literacy and math centers, building students’ stamina to work independently and in small groups for a sustained amount of time. In October, we will fully launch our Daily Five time.

First

1st grade is learning about classroom expectations and how to be a good citizen.  We are practicing Daily 5 stations.

Second

2nd Grade is learning how to be good citizens at school and in the community. We are settled into our routines and love being together.

Third

3rd grade is continuing to practice how to be respectful and responsible learners through SEL and social studies standards.  We have started our curriculum for reading, math and science too!

Fourth

4th grade is working very hard on multiplication in math and making inferences in our reading. We are studying the history of Illinois in Social Studies.

Fifth

In Science, the 5th graders have been learning about the engineering design process, because throughout the school year, they will be engineers, using scientific knowledge to solve problems.  Last week the students worked in groups to create a catapult that could fling a pom-pom ball.  It was fun to see each group’s creativity and success with this project.

Art

We began the year with a brief introduction to the elements of art, while creating monochromatic self-portraits. We are now learning skills used in drawing. Grades 2-5 will then learn how to plan and implement their own choice art project using those drawing skills and materials.

LMC

I am having so much fun getting to know all the students at Park View! Kinder through 2nd grades are working on selecting just right books and how to take care of library books. Third through 5th grades are learning to use the Library Catalog. They can show you how to search to see if there is a book in the PV Library from their Chromebook, have them show you!

Social Work

I am new to Park View and spent the beginning of the school year introducing myself to students and getting to know the kids. Each class has a social work lesson every other week on a variety of social emotional learning (SEL) topics. This includes identifying emotions and zones of regulation, being kind to each other, coping skills, how to be a good friend, and so much more!

PE

K/1- Students have started the locomotor unit and will continue working on movement through an area using different skills learned. (Skip, slide, gallop, jump, hop etc.) 2nd-5th- Students just finished frisbee unit. Students played kan jam and frisbee golf. We are starting 4 square, spikeball, and bags unit this week.
