Faculty Report -

Kindergarten

We are getting to know each other, working on setting classroom expectations and routines.  We are learning the Jolly Phonics and finishing up the student of the day posters.

First

The children are learning to be responsible citizens, which is part of our first social studies unit. We are learning about each other through our Student of the Day activities.

Second

We have settled in nicely and are in the Second Grade Groove! One of the highlights we are working on is our Civics unit in Social Studies. We’re learning about what a good citizen is, rights & responsibilities and how to show you are a good citizen in school and at home.

Third

Third graders are focusing on asking and answering questions while reading, parts of speech, and narrative writing.

In math, they are adding and subtracting and working on place value concepts.

For science, they are studying weather and climate and in social studies, rules and communities.

Fourth

Fourth grade has worked on identifying character traits and the plot in reading. We are working on large number place value in math and in writing we are working on narratives in the third person.

Fifth

Fifth grade began the year learning about what an engineer does-kids built a catapult with a team to practice working like engineers. This will root all of our science work/activities for the year. We’re working on inferencing and reading a book Seedfolks that the kids are really enjoying.

LMC

We have spent the first few weeks getting reacquainted with the library. We are reviewing how to find the perfect book and how to use the Makerspace.

Gym

Kindergarten and 1st grade have been practicing their locomotor movements and learning about spatial awareness. 3rd and 5th grade are currently in the soccer unit and began fitness testing this week.

2nd grade has started locomotors and have been practicing their Fitness Testing. 4th grade has been finishing up their Fitness Testing and have started their pacer board along with their monthly goals.

Art

This week we are celebrating International Dot Day. The students read the book The Dot by Peter Reynolds in the library and now they are creating dots to display all around the building.

Music

We have been solidifying music class expectations and reinforcing musical concepts that may have been forgotten over the summer. 4th & 5th grade chorus information is being passed out this week-  for those interested it begins on October 9th!

Social Work

Social Emotional Learning groups are beginning in the classroom.  Self management is the first area that we address.
